60% of the immune cells in the body are said to be in the intestine! Thus, the intestine is the largest organ of immunity in the body! Our bodies are constantly being attacked by pathogens, in order to maintain homeostasis of all our body systems, the immune system is constantly defending the body from attacks that could throw off our homeostasis and kill us. It is a part of every system because it travels in the blood, and goes to every cell. Without the immune system, we would be defenseless! |
Mucus in the respiratory system catches pathogens we breathe in.
